A Trip in Palm Springs

Set:
Ready for a vacation. Most likely running away from work but also bringing it with me. Go figure.

Setting:
Surrounded by friends who have seen me in many different phases of my life, in a picturesque Palm Springs Airbnb.

This High was:

"Set" is the mental state a person brings to the experience, like thoughts, mood and expectations. "Setting" is the physical and social environment. This can play a huge factor on your high. Be mindful of this.

The colors. The sunset over the mountains, the well manicured bright green landscaping, the pops of bright paint throughout the city - all make for the perfect trip. I felt like I was on a movie set for a hot sec.

The HIGH of the high :

A friend and I had decided to hang back instead of hit the town with the rest of the group. There was a meteor shower that night and we were determined to catch something. Anything. A shooting star would have sufficed to be honest. We sat back in our lounge chairs, staring at the night sky trying to decide if we should continue the high or wrap it up and then it happened. This 4” long streak shot across the sky. The beam of light radiated white from the center, with a blaring orange bottom and a thin neon light like purple line at the top of what we were now realizing was a meteor. The color spectrum was so bright - I had never seen anything that brightly lit up, naturally. It lasted long enough that we were able to reach across from one another, grab hands, and just experience it. The ball of light had faded but we waited just a moment longer before both sitting up and looking at each other. Laughter burst out of both of us until it turned into tears. We call it our life orgasm. Mushrooms have a tendency of doing this when done with the right people.

Fun Fact: The Perseid meteor shower, which happens every year in August is always popular, but 2018's peak — which occured on the nights of Aug. 11 to 12 and Aug. 12 to 13 — were particularly spectacular because the moon was a thin crescent and set early, leaving a dark canvas for the meteors' bright streaks and fireballs.

Don’t be alarmed,
It’s normal.

The
Scariest
Part:

I had decided to go a “lil deeper” and took a dip under water. Thankfully I had told a friend because they saw the panic on my face when I came up for breath. No joke - I thought the world had flipped horizontally in the opposite direction while I was down under. They grabbed me, brought me to the ledge of the pool, and I eventually figured out nothing had actually switched on me, I was just high.

The Take Away:
Trip with the right people & make more time for memories like this.
